If you’ve been researching the Greenville area, chances are you’ve heard about Taylors, South Carolina. And most of what you hear is pretty positive.
But like any place, Taylors isn’t perfect.
As a local real estate agent who has helped hundreds of families relocate to the Upstate — and closed well over 130 transactions in the past year alone — I spend a lot of time helping buyers evaluate whether Taylors actually fits their lifestyle, commute, budget, and long-term plans.
So in this guide, I’m breaking down the real pros and cons of living in Taylors, SC — the good, the not-so-good, and who this area is actually best for.
Where Is Taylors, SC? (Location, Commute & Overview)
Taylors sits just northeast of downtown Greenville, between Greenville, Greer, and Travelers Rest. It’s not an incorporated town, but rather a large suburban community in Greenville County.
Here’s what that means from a practical standpoint:
• Downtown Greenville: ~10–15 minutes (5.5 miles)
• Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP): ~15 minutes (9 miles)
• Greer: ~12 minutes
• Travelers Rest: ~20 minutes
• Lake Robinson: ~15 minutes
• Paris Mountain State Park: ~15 minutes
Because of this central location, Taylors often appeals to buyers who want suburban affordability while staying close to Greenville’s job centers and amenities.
Pro #1: Close to Downtown Greenville Without Downtown Prices
One of the biggest advantages of living in Taylors is proximity to downtown Greenville without paying downtown premiums.
You can realistically be:
• At Falls Park on the Reedy in about 10–15 minutes
• Dining on Main Street in under 20 minutes
• At Bon Secours Wellness Arena for events in about 15 minutes
But home prices are significantly lower than comparable homes closer to downtown.
Median home price in Taylors: ~$340,000Pro #2: Taylors Mill & Growing Local Energy

Taylors Mill is one of the most defining features of the area.
Originally commissioned in the early 20th century as a textile mill, it now functions as a mixed-use community hub with:
• 13 Stripes Brewery
• The Farehouse
• Fitness studios and CrossFit gyms
• Creative office spaces
• Event venues and community gatherings
It’s not a “downtown,” but it gives Taylors a strong sense of identity and community energy that many suburbs lack.
Pro #3: Strong Everyday Convenience (Especially Along Wade Hampton Blvd)

If convenience matters to you, Taylors delivers.
Wade Hampton Boulevard runs straight through the area and offers nearly everything residents need:
• Grocery stores and retail centers
• Medical offices and urgent care
• National chains and casual dining
• Service businesses and everyday essentials
You won’t always find boutique charm here — but you will find efficiency.
Pro #4: Highly Rated Schools (Including Wade Hampton High)
For buyers relocating with kids, schools are often a deciding factor — and Taylors performs well here.
Many neighborhoods are zoned for:
Elementary Schools
• Brook Glenn Elementary
• Brushy Creek Elementary
• Mountain View Elementary
• Paris Elementary
• Taylors Elementary
• Tigerville Elementary
Middle School
• Northwood Middle
High Schools
• Wade Hampton High School (often ranked among the top public high schools in Greenville County)
• Eastside High School
School zoning always depends on the specific address, but overall Taylors is consistently strong for public school access.
Pro #5: Affordability for Greenville County
Compared to much of Greenville County, Taylors remains one of the more affordable options — especially considering location.
What you’ll typically see:
• $275K–$350K: Older ranch homes, townhomes, smaller properties
• $350K–$450K: Updated homes in established neighborhoods
• $450K–$600K+: Newer construction and larger homes
For buyers relocating from higher-cost markets, Taylors often feels like a great value play.
Pro #6: Access to Outdoor Lifestyle

Taylors is quietly one of the better positioned suburbs for outdoor access:
• Lake Robinson (kayaking, fishing, walking trails)
• Paris Mountain State Park (hiking, biking, paddleboarding)
• Blue Ridge Mountain access within 30–40 minutes
For active buyers or retirees, this is a major lifestyle advantage.
Con #1: No True Downtown Core
One of the biggest drawbacks is that Taylors doesn’t have a traditional downtown.
Unlike nearby areas such as:
• Greer
• Travelers Rest
Taylors lacks a walkable main street with dense restaurants, retail, and nightlife.
You’re always driving somewhere — even if it’s only 10–15 minutes.
For some buyers, that’s no issue. For others, it’s a dealbreaker.
Con #2: Heavy Chain Restaurant Presence
While Taylors has great convenience, it leans heavily toward national chains.
There are strong local spots (especially around Taylors Mill), but compared to downtown Greenville or Travelers Rest, it lacks deep local food diversity.
If food culture is a top priority, this may feel limiting.
Con #3: Wade Hampton Traffic Can Be Slow
Traffic is one of the more common complaints I hear from clients.
Because Wade Hampton Boulevard has:
• Frequent stoplights
• Heavy commuter volume
• Retail congestion
Your commute time can vary significantly.
A drive to downtown Greenville that should take 10 minutes can stretch closer to 20 during peak hours.
Con #4: Not Ideal for Daily Interstate Commuters
Taylors sits farther from I-85 and I-385 compared to areas like Simpsonville or Five Forks.
If you commute daily via interstate, that extra drive time adds up quickly.
For remote workers or local commuters, it’s less of an issue.
So… Is Taylors, SC a Good Place to Live? (Expert Verdict)
In my experience working with relocation buyers, Taylors is an excellent fit for:
✔ Buyers who want value + proximity to Greenville
✔ Families prioritizing schools and space
✔ Buyers relocating from higher-cost markets
✔ People who want suburban living with outdoor access
It’s probably not ideal for:
✘ Buyers who want walkability
✘ People seeking vibrant nightlife or food scenes
✘ Daily interstate commuters
Overall, Taylors continues to grow in popularity — and for good reason.
